Offline use and syncing

YarnHub is built to work in places with poor signal: yarn shops, craft fairs, trains, and the back rooms of guild halls.

What works offline

Your data is cached on your device, so opening the app without a connection still gives you your stash, your projects, and your row counters. You can browse and read as normal.

Changes you make offline are held locally and sent to the server the next time you have a connection. You do not need to do anything to trigger this.

What needs a connection

Some things genuinely require the network:

• Searching the global catalogue beyond what you have already viewed.
• Barcode lookups for yarns not already cached on your device.
• The community feed.
• Signing in for the first time on a new device.

Syncing across devices

Your account carries your data. Sign in on a phone, a tablet, and the web app, and all three show the same stash and the same project progress.

Sync happens automatically in the background. If a change does not appear on another device straight away, pull to refresh.

A word on conflicts

If you edit the same stash entry on two devices while both are offline, the last change to reach the server is the one that is kept. This is rare in practice, but worth knowing if you routinely work offline on more than one device at once.
